NOSSummitSkills is updating the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for renewable and environmental technologies to ensure approved training and assessment is in place. This follows the completion of an independent report commissioned by SummitSkills earlier in 2007 (click here to download the report). It will see the development of the NOS and minimum technical competencies set for completion by March 2008. At present, significant efforts are needed to address training on microgeneration technologies in the UK. The environmental technologies are all seen by the Building Services Engineering Sector as extensions of current job activities. For example, solar thermal hot water is an extension of plumbing or domestic heating engineers and solar photovoltaic an extension of an electrotechnical skill set.
