What are they used for?
Both employers and employees can use the standards in their workplace. Overall they can be used to:

  • set out a statement of competence which bring together the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to do the work
  • provide managers with a tool for a wide variety of workforce management and quality control, for example staff appraisals
  • offer a framework for training and development
  • form the basis of National Vocational Qualification Diplomas (NVQ Diplomas), Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQs) and Vocationally Related Qualifications (VRQs)
