Finding a suitable Foundation degree (Fd)Whether you are an individual or an employer, you can use the search facility on the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) website to find higher education courses (excluding post-graduate programmes) to identify providers that are currently recruiting students. The next stepWhen you have selected the Fd(s) that might meet your needs, you should contact the delivering institution (college or university) to find out more. If their prospectus does not include details of the Fds available, contact a specific academic department such as a school of the Built Environment, the engineering department or admissions office for more information. Many colleges and universities are currently developing, or considering developing, Fds. If you find they are still at the development stage, this could present the opportunity for you to influence the content of the Fd, or when and where teaching takes place. Can't find a suitable Foundation degree? If you are unable to find a suitable Fd, you could approach colleges or universities to make them aware of the possible demand and to see if they might like to work with you to develop one. A number of colleges and universities have already worked in partnership with interested employers to develop these for building services engineering. If you are from a small or micro business you could contact other people working in the sector and consider making your approach to colleges or universities jointly, to demonstrate market demand for the qualification. SummitSkills' Foundation degree framework specification could be used as a model to help new Fds to be developed more easily and we are happy for you to recommend it if required. |
