The Alliance of Sector Skills Councils

14-19 Diplomas

SummitSkills has worked in conjunction with partner Sector Skills Councils to develop two new diplomas for 14-19 year olds, which launched in September 2008.

These new qualifications will provide a chance for young people to find out about and develop skills of use in broad industry sectors before they make a commitment to a specific career.

Many employers, as well as representatives of schools, colleges and universities, made valuable contributions towards the initial development of outline content, to ensure the qualifications will meet industry needs. Employer input will continue to be important to ensure learners have access to appropriate work related learning, including work experience.

Employers' guide

SummitSkills has produced a guide specifically for building services engineering employers to help them understand and support the two new diplomas.

ASL Units

SummitSkills has worked in partnership with ABC Awards to develop a set of building services engineering units for Additional Specialist Learning.

Diploma Development Partnership

The Diploma Development Partnership (DDP) is looking for companies to help with the delivery of the Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment (C&BE).  If your company can assist, please register by emailing Jenny English at ConstructionSkills.

Registered company’s details will be made available to consortia, enabling them to quickly identify help that is available. The DDP Employers group suggests sharing resources such as:

  • Providing marketing materials
  • Support for projects and assignments
  • Speakers
  • Work experience for learners, teachers and lecturers
  • Company site and premises visits
  • Taking part if careers fairs and taster days
  • Work shadowing
  • Mentoring
  • Giving access to equipment

The DDP are tasked with ensuring that there are enough employer resources available to consortia to make delivering the C&BE Diploma successful.
