SummitSkills engaged with BSE professionals at Installer Live 201128 Oct 2011 SummitSkills linked up with building services engineering professionals recently at Installer Live, the national plumbing, heating and renewables show at the NEC in Birmingham. The Eco Challenge area, sponsored by SummitSkills and the National Skills Academy for Environmental Technologies, provided stakeholders, employers and installers with the opportunity to improve their knowledge about the latest developments in the sector as the Energy Act becomes law, laying the foundations for the Green Deal to go live in 2012. Nigel Hollett, head of environmental technologies at SummitSkills commented, “Being ableto get face to face with installers to discuss the impact of the skills and qualifications that they will need to move into a greener future was very positive and colleagues were available at the SummitSkills stand to take further questions that the seminars raised.
“These included questions about the impact the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme will have on the sector and requests for more information about forthcoming changes around individual competency requirements within the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). They also wanted to know of the learning opportunities that discounts available through the Joint Investment Programme are able to bring to the industry.”
The Eco Challenge area provided additional and valuable knowledge for domestic and commercial installers and potential installers, as well as the opportunity to meet training providers from the National Skills Academy for Environmental Technologies and awarding bodies. City & Guilds and EAL were also in the Eco Challenge area helping to identify the skills installers will need for the future.
SummitSkills encouraged installers to take advantage of the opportunities Installer Live provided, as the UK takes action to reduce its carbon output. SummitSkills own research shows that there will be an increasing demand for businesses to upskill their employees to be able to install environmental technologies.
