Mechanical Strategic Advisory Group
About the Group
This group combines the Heating and Ventilation, Plumbing and the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning industries. From here issues are prioritised and developed into projects, which will then assist in forming future strategy and objectives for SummitSkills.
Members of the group include the HVACR National Training Forum, employers, trade associations, professional bodies, manufactures, training providers and colleges including BACH and NAPT members, City and Guilds, Adult Learning Inspectorate, and LSC CoVE representation.
Key issues:
Such issues might encompass the market position, future skills, productivity and business development as they relate to the RAC, H&V and Plumbing industries.
Some of the key issues raised and discussed have included:
- Qualifying the workforce (Existing Workers)
- Feedback on recruitment and registration for plumbing qualifications.
- Apprenticeships (Adults, recruitment etc.)
- Higher level NVQ Diplomas
- Labour Market Information
- Standardisation of training across the UK
- Training routes for technicians/engineers
- Employer Engagement
- Promotion of the industry
- Funding - future investment in training
- Concerns about training organisations offering non recognised training
- Aptitude testing for new entrants
- Gas work based training requirements within Plumbing NVQ
- Energy efficiency training
- Part P Training
- Plumbing competitions
- Staff development and training of trainers
