Awards for Excellence 2011

The SummitSkills Awards for Excellence (previously the National Training Awards) is a unique event that recognises the very best talent in UK building services engineering.

There were awards in 11 categories commending the best craft, technical and professional operatives and engineers in the sector.

NOMINATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED

This year’s awards ceremony was particularly special as it was e held during the world’s biggest international skills competition – WorldSkills 2011 – at ExCeL London. View the winners here.

WorldSkills aims to positively change perceptions of vocational education around the globe and will only be held in the UK approximately once in every 25 years.  Holding the Awards for Excellence ceremony during WorldSkills will be a great opportunity for nominees to mix with the 1000 competitors from 50 countries taking part in competitions in 45 skills areas.

Award Categories

Awards are made in 11 categories and to individuals at all stages of their careers.

The winners of the Skill M&E skills competitions account for the four Operative of the Year awards as follows:

  • Heating and Ventilating Operative of the Year
    (SkillPIPE 2011 winner)
  • Plumbing Operative of the Year
    (SkillPLUMB 2011 winner)
  • Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Operative of the Year (SkillFRIDGE 2011 winner)
  • Electrotechnical Operative of the Year
    (SkillELECTRIC 2011 winner)

Awards in the following categories are made on the basis of competitive nominations. 

  • Experienced Existing Worker of the Year (Mechanical)
  • Experienced Existing Worker of the Year (Electrical)
  • Technical Engineer of the Year
  • Happold Bursary (for employees ready for a supervisory role)
  • Alfred Manly Management Award (for junior and middle managers)
  • Ann Noblett Memorial Scholarship (Professional Engineer of the Year)
  • Environmental Excellence Award
