National Training Awards 2008

The British Library in London played host to the 2008 National Training Awards for the building services engineering sector on 2nd April.  The lively event was hosted by Stuart Lyon, Vice Chair of SummitSkills.

Talented award winners included craft operatives, engineers and future managers all of whom have shown their ability to combine work, family life and training to progress within the sector.


Special guest speaker Kriss Akabusi MBE captivated the audience with his motivational speech, emphasizing the value of teamwork.


David Lammy MP, Minister for Skills in the Dept for Innovation, Universities and Skills congratulated the winners by special video address.  His speech highlighted the importance of developing and maintaining a skilled workforce both for the sector and wider economy.

All winners received an engraved trophy, certificate and vouchers sponsored by EAL.

UK Skills National Training Awards

Businesses of all sizes, from micro businesses to multi-nationals, in the public, private or voluntary sectors, are eligible to enter the National Training Awards managed by UK Skills.  This includes organisations that work together to provide education and training in a business context and/or within the community.

Though the labels are the same, these are not the same thing as our sector's National Training Awards.  They are managed by UK Skills and supported by the the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, Department for Employment and Learning Northern Ireland, the Welsh Assembly Government, Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
