Skills for Business

What is Train to Gain

'Train to Gain' is an initiative to raise the skill levels of people who are in work but do not already hold at least one Level 2 qualification. The aim of the initiative is to have all skilled employees trained to a minimum of a Level 2 certificate.

How does it work?

'Train to Gain' skills brokers have been contracted across England to approach employers to offer a Organisational Needs Analysis (ONA) of their employees. These skills brokers then put together a training plan that will offer a choice of training solutions for each employee. Training is available not only for trades, but administration, support staff, management and leadership. The Train to Gain program is separate and in addition to the current apprenticeship funding.

Employers have the option to accept or reject the training offered. For more details on the process please see the Employer Section.

SummitSkills' Involvement

As one of the 25 Sector Skills Councils (SSC) in the United Kingdom, SummitSkills is involved in the roll-out of the Learning and Skills Council’s (LSC) 'Train to Gain' initiative. The project replaces and builds upon the LSC’s National Employer Training Pilot (NETP). David Cox of SummitSkills is coordinating SummitSkills’ efforts to contact each of the successful brokers, to ensure they have the tools necessary to understand employer needs and find suitable solutions for those employers.
